In this episode, I share what I would do differently if teaching Community and Family Studies based on my 20+ years of experience. I discuss explicit knowledge of the syllabus, teaching the glossary of keywords, paragraph structure, developing options structure from day one, embedding wellbeing, using specific and varied examples, and planning answers using the RUNFAR method.
Episode Highlights:
- Explicitly teach syllabus understanding over just knowledge
- Teach application of glossary words from the start
- Develop paragraph structure skills from Year 7
- Start options structure practice in Year 11
- Embed wellbeing for part C of the options
- Use unique, specific examples from your local context
- Plan answers using the RUNFAR method of reading, underlining, naming, formulating a plan, answering, and reviewing
