Community and Family Studies

In this episode, I’m joined by dance education expert Kate to discuss the significant curriculum reforms happening in New South Wales and how dance educators can successfully navigate the new 7-10 dance syllabus. We explore the key changes, strategies for implementation, and the importance of building a supportive community of dance teachers to share resources and ideas. As a former dance teacher myself, I understand the challenges of feeling isolated and overwhelmed by curriculum changes. That’s why I’m excited to bring you this conversation filled with practical tips and access to ongoing support to help you thrive in the classroom.

The new 7-10 dance syllabus in NSW marks the most significant curriculum reform in 20 years, affecting both core subjects and electives. It has been simplified, with fewer outcomes and a clearer structure, allowing for greater flexibility in teaching approaches. Successfully navigating these changes involves downloading the syllabus, identifying key updates, and refreshing existing resources to align with the new framework. Additionally, fostering a strong community of dance educators is essential to overcoming isolation and sharing best practices.

To further support teachers, the dance membership program offers comprehensive resources, structured units of work, and ongoing mentorship from an experienced dance educator like Kate. Establishing dance as a serious academic subject requires a well-structured program that highlights the value of dance education. The membership provides a cost-effective solution—equivalent to just two casual teaching days—that ultimately saves time, energy, and enhances overall well-being for busy dance teachers. Whether you're an experienced educator or new to teaching dance, this episode is packed with valuable insights to help you adapt and succeed.
