Community and Family Studies

In this episode, I’m diving into teacher burnout using the analogy of cultural burning practices in Aboriginal communities. I’m sharing my personal experiences with burnout, comparing it to how prescribed burns are used to regenerate land and prevent wildfires. I also chat about the importance of protecting your well-being as a teacher, and advocating for change to support your flourishing.

Episode highlights include:

✨ The connection between cultural burning practices and preventing teacher burnout

✨ My three personal experiences with burnout and how it impacted my health and home life

✨ Insights from indigenous fire practitioners on land management and preventing destruction

✨ Systemic issues in schools that can "choke" teachers and impact their identity

✨ The collective responsibility of teachers to work together, heal, and thrive in their careers
